I read posts about prepping online in the past months but only started prepping about 2 weeks back. Got a 1 kilo bag of rice for a start. Also looking at what I have and gather stuff together.
Appreciate pointers and advise from you and fellow members on how to start.
G'day mates!

At least, you are now one of the enlightened ones... Join us in the darkside, Luke.... ooops, wrong movie hahaha.... Always remember that in prepping "two is one and one is none" and also the Rule of 3 is very important.

Hi overlord, could you tell more about"Always remember that in prepping "two is one and one is none" and also the Rule of 3 is very important." Thanks mate. I can't wait to hear about this one myself - did he make it up? two one none?? However, I know what the Rule of 3's are, they are located in the Forum - GENERAL - GENERAL BOARD - A good reason to prepare.

LOL strop... nice one, mate! It is a saying used even in business as it is in prepping. ( www.forbes.com/sites/work-in-progress/2011/06/21/two-is-one-and-one-is-none/) Got this from the Everyday-Carry.com website: "The “Two is one, one is none” / “One is none, two is one” mantra is from the Navy Seals and is in no means an excuse for carrying extra gear, but rather a practice in redundancy. If it can fail, it will. If you can lose it, it’s lost. If it malfunctions, you won’t have time to fix it. It’s a reminder to help save your life and complete the mission succecfully. This is especially true when diving or using SCUBA systems, you NEED to have redundancy in place to survive."
Always prepare with redundancy. One flashlight is good, but two are better. If the main flashlight fails, you have a back-up. Another nice discussion on the saying: www.artofmanliness.com/2014/08/04/two-is-one-and-one-is-none-how-redundancies-increase-your-antifragility/

good, it is Overlord hehehe.... I suggest hooking up with myrrph. He has gotten his sources there in SG for his gear and stuff at good prices. He could suggest low cost places to get them.

Thanks OL for the intro ...
yup, budget prepping in SG is possible. DX.com, Daiso and common sense is all you need.
Prepping requires alot of reading more than buying to be honest. What makes a good make shift water filter?
A water Bottle, old school tap cloth (those cotton cloth you rubber band to your tap), Zip Tie, Cotton balls.
When able, some wood charcoal (not the commercial kind, those you get after burning wood), some soil and you have a usable water filter.
After Filtering, boil.
Tea/sugar/coffee to taste.
